Canastota, New York is an Erie Canal community central to a region in historical tradition. Originally settled in 1810, Canastota evolved into a vibrant canal town and became incorporated in 1835. A revitalized portion of the canal still exist, running through the central portion of the village. The Canal Town Museum is located just across the street from the canal. Much of the village’s past can be viewed here.
